NHTM is a little jewel hidden away in southern NH. The concept of a museum showcasing the independent telephone companies that sprang up shortly after Mr. Bell's invention became popular, was the brainchild of one man who owned one of those little companies, and his son who spent his career in the same field. Alderic (Dick) Violette and son Paul have done an outstanding job of collecting, collating, and exhibiting all manner of telephone equipment from the last hundred-plus years. The staff of three are every bit as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the bits and pieces. It's a great way to enjoy a little "side trip" and likely learn a few things to boot.

A surprisingly enjoyable time. Four of us spent 1.5 hrs there during the Kearsarge Maple Festival weekend and really enjoyed our experience. We were giving a tour by Paul, who I believe founded the museum. He was a very nice chap and incredibly informed and passionate about the history of the phone and telecommunications in New England. He had a lot of interesting personal stories to share. It's not just a museum about phones--it's also about how small towns and farmers started becoming connected to each other. There are lots of museum pieces that you are allowed to touch, but it would be fun if they had a reconstructed switch board where you could practice answering and transferring calls. A few more hands-on activities would be appreciated.

The Museum was fascinating, I could spend hours in there on a rainy day.

All ages will enjoy a visit; staff are, friendly, professional, well trained, and extreamly knowledgeable. You'll have a fun, enjoyable and fascinating walk through history, well worth an afternoon in the quaint New Hampshire village

Everyone has a phone, this museum gives you a close up look at all respects of development from Bell filing his patent right through today's smart phone.

Makes you appreciate your cell phone going to this museum
